Grade 9 Physics Unit 7: Temperature & Thermometry
About Course
Unit 7 of your Grade 9 Physics course is called “Temperature and Thermometry.” In this unit, you will learn what temperature is, how to measure it, how it affects everyday life in Ethiopia, and how different tools and scales are used in science.
In Chapter 7.1, you will learn how temperature affects our daily life. You will see how temperature is important in farming, cooking, storing food, and taking care of our health. You will understand why knowing the temperature helps us make good decisions.
Chapter 7.2 teaches about extreme temperature safety. You will learn how to stay safe during very hot or very cold weather. This is important in many parts of Ethiopia, where the temperature can change a lot between day and night or across different regions.
In Chapter 7.3, you will study how temperature changes affect different materials. You will learn what happens to solids, liquids, and gases when they are heated or cooled. For example, metals expand when they are hot and shrink when they are cold.
Chapter 7.4 introduces thermometric scales. You will learn about Celsius (°C), Fahrenheit (°F), and Kelvin (K). These are different ways to measure temperature. You will also learn when and where each scale is used.
In Chapter 7.5, you will explore different types of thermometers. You will learn how thermometers work and where we use them, such as in hospitals, weather stations, and homes. You will also compare liquid thermometers, digital thermometers, and infrared thermometers.
Chapter 7.6 teaches you how to convert temperatures from one scale to another. You will practice changing Celsius to Fahrenheit or Kelvin using simple formulas. This skill is useful in science and everyday life.
Finally, Chapter 7.7 explains thermal expansion. This is what happens when materials grow bigger when they are heated. You will learn how this idea is used in real life—for example, in building bridges, railways, or metal lids.
