The heart and soul behind Atenu, EPherata founded the platform with a single conviction: every Ethiopian student deserves access to quality education regardless of geography. A natural storyteller and polymath, she weaves history, culture, and economics into lessons that students actually remember years later.
An avid traveler with stamps from over 7 countries, EPherata says every trip becomes a lesson — her Geography students can confirm.
Biruk N.
Director of the Atenu Foundation, Biruk brings over a decade of curriculum design expertise forged across Canadian universities and Ethiopian classrooms. A former Canadian Armed Forces reservist, he approaches education with the same discipline and precision he learned during service — but with far more patience for questions.
When he’s not redesigning curricula, you’ll find him on a backcountry trail somewhere in the Canadian Rockies — probably debating lesson plans with the wildlife.
Wilfrid N.
Wilfrid is the rare teacher who can switch from explaining differential equations to conjugating French verbs without missing a beat. Leading Atenu’s TEF preparation program, he’s helped dozens of students achieve the French proficiency scores they need for immigration, university admissions, and international careers.
A passionate urban farmer, Wilfrid grows his own vegetables and says the patience required for gardening is exactly the patience needed for teaching algebra.
Claude A.
The tech wizard of the team, Claude designs Atenu’s digital content and brings cutting-edge AI tools into the classroom. Fluent in Japanese, he leads the JLPT preparation course — one of the only programs of its kind available to Ethiopian students — while also making Physics and Chemistry feel less intimidating.
Claude once built an AI chatbot that could quiz students on Japanese kanji. His students loved it — his cat, who kept triggering the voice commands, less so.
